Student use of the Media Center is a privilege and not a right.  Failing to adhere to the Media Center’s expectations and policies may result in the student’s privileges being suspended by the Media Specialist or Dean of Students.

Any student sent to the Media Center during school hours must have a pass or be escorted by a teacher.

Students will not to be sent to the Media Center during the lunch periods.

Media Center Procedures:

All non-textbook materials requested by a student or staff member must be checked out through the Media Specialist and returned or renewed by the suspense date.  Failure to renew or return one (1) or more Media Center item by the suspense date will immediately result in suspension of that student’s Media Center privileges and placement on the school-wide Fees and Fines list; the student will not be allowed to conduct any business with the Media Center/Specialist.

If there is a second instance of failure to return or renew a Media Center item(s) within the same quarter, the student’s Media Center privileges will be suspended for the remainder of that quarter, the student will be placed on the school-wide Fees and Fines list, and the student will be unable to participate in selected after-school activities as determined by the Dean of Students.

If there is a third instance of failure to return or renew a Media Center item(s) within the same semester, the student’s Media Center privileges will be suspended for the remainder of that semester, the student will be placed on the school-wide Fees and Fines list, and the student will be unable to participate in selected after-school activities as determined by the Dean of Students.

If there is a fourth instance of failure to properly return or renew a Media Center item anytime within the current school year, the student’s Media Center privileges will be suspended for the remainder of the school year, the student will be placed on the Fees and Fines List, and the student will be unable to participate in selected after-school activities as determined by the Dean; in addition, students with on-campus parking privileges may have their parking spot taken away for the remainder of the school year.

If a student fails to return an overdue item or pay the fine associated with the overdue item within three (3) school days of the latest approved due date, the Medial Specialist will contact the parent or guardian to resolve; that contact will be documented by the Media Specialist.  If the issue is not resolved within three (3)  days of the parent/guardian contact, the student will be referred in writing (using the referral form) to the Dean of Students by the Media Specialist.

The fee schedule is $.25 for each day overdue for the first three days, $.50 per day for the next three days, and $1.00 per day thereafter.

Students are not permitted to remove any materials from the classrooms for any reason unless approved by the responsible teacher and Media Specialist.

Students/Student Aides are not authorized to operate the Media Center or Teacher Lounge copiers.  The Media Specialist will operate the Media Center copier, and teachers are authorized to operate the copier in the Teacher’s Lounge.

In School Suspension (ISS), when necessary, will be conducted in the Media Center and supervised by the Media Specialist and Dean of Students.  Students in ISS will remain silent, complete work provided by their teachers, and will not be allowed to use cell phones or other electronic devices/headphones/earbuds.  A laptop or tablet may be used if directed by a teacher.  ISS students may also be required to perform other duties as directed by the Dean of Students.
